Perhaps a compromise would be to have a new menu item on LE to validate data that would only be used by users bringing in data from the outside world.

On the downside, adding the extra validation code would slow the initial loading of the panel, and 99.9% of the time, it would detect no errors. The ability to see the LE Panel, even defective, is a big help. In my case, just rejecting the file as invalid would be inconvenient. There are no errors logged, but Layout Editor sure acts strange! So I would be inclined to vote for logging the bad XML data. Due to incomplete processing on my end, I have Anchor Points that list only two Track Segments, but in fact, there are more than two Track Segments that refer to that Anchor Point. For a better answer, see suggestion above. Currently I dont think export from AR includes any scenery, but I might be wrong.
However, we might be able to take scenery created in AR and convert it to TP format. Has anyone else experienced the problem? I updated my JMRI to the current production release this afternoon and that has not changed it. any files, and I dont think AR has a way to import data in other formats. So, it appears that the track occupancy color change only works when the grid is present in the layout editor. Still, I thought I'd see what it looked like in edit mode with grid not displayed.and the color does not change. I added a sensor icon also attached to the sensor to see if that worked and that does indeed work outside of edit mode. I went back into edit mode and it still worked there. So I came out, but, the color did not change when I put the loco on/off the track. So, I thought I'd see what it looked like outside of edit mode.
On, at 14:29, Jim MacinoI put a loco on the track and, still in edit mode, the block changed color beautifully. Make sure you have the latest version of AnyRail on your computer.

On Windows computers, all document-related files (e.g., word processor and spreadsheet files) default to save in the My Documents folder automatically. I've been interested in the hobby off and on through the years but haven't touched any of my stuff for quite awhile now. If you are having trouble determining what drive is associated with a flash drive or another external drive, open My Computer and look at the available drives.
